Rear corners bumped, tape ghosts on endpapers, page edges foxed, original bookseller's sticker inside front endpaper, previous owner's name, date inked on title page, ink writing top of page 3. Unclipped dustjacket has wear on edges, chipping at head of spine, 1cm closed tear top of front flap. The intimate and heroic story of USS 'Belinda', Attack Transport PA22, launched late 1943 with a regular navy Captain Hawks and ex-merchant Captain MacDougall as Boat Commander and an inexperienced crew. Almost laughable incompetence gradually improves, but the crew remains far from perfect when the ship sees action, landing troops on enemy beachheads in the Pacific.
